2014-Aug-1 22:56 - NFL Fantasy Football

NFL Fantasy Football 2011 Brandon Thomas Womens Jersey Week 8

Tim Tebow nearly put up a goose egg in his starting performance but pulled a rabbit out of that helmet of his in the closing minutes to have an elite fantasy QB day. This week he plays the Lions. One thing to remember in Tebow matchups is that even though a team might be good against the pass(like the Lions) it is almost equally important how that team does against the run(Lions are bad in this department). Tebow has an unproven high ceiling target in Demaryius Thomas. I believe both Tebow and Thomas will have a good fantasy 2011, if they stay healthy. TE Daniel Fells should have a bump up in production as well, not enough to make him a TE1 though. Tebow should be able to get it done against the Lions in week 8. Christian Ponder had a thumbs up performance against Green Bay like I expected. He made a couple of bad throws but should exceptional pocket awareness and had good touch on this throws. It doesn't hurt that he can run the ball as well. I really like Ponder's talent and think he will be a good one in this league. His receivers(Harvin, Jenkins, Shiancoe) have talent but have had trouble staying healthy. Regardless, Ponder should stay relevant as at least a QB2 this year and is a great speculative dynasty league pickup because of his high upside. Bottom line, I expect him to have a solid QB2 day against the Panthers. John Beck does not project to be a great QB in the NFL but he should be able to put up some QB1 type days in some match ups. Week 8 is one of those weeks against Buffalo. Buffalo is giving up 284+ passing yards on average. Beck is not the second coming of Joe Theismann but he should be able to mimic his production for at least week 8. Colt McCoy is a QB sleeper I had in pre season only because of the West Coast system that was being implemented by the Browns. He has a tough matchup against the 49ers this week and I don't expect the standard 200+ passing yards and 1.5 TDs I usually expect from McCoy. McCoy finally seems to have a good target in Greg Little but still has a lot to do to become a QB1. I didn't pick McCoy as a sleeper fantasy starter but as a spot starter and he can still be that, he plays a terrible Rams defense in week 10. Bottom line, I expect McCoy to have a bad game against the 49ers but should be good for a couple more select spot starts. Andy Dalton continues to look average to above average. Going against Seattle he has a somewhat favorable matchup, the Seahawks are giving up 250 passing yards a game. Dalton has good receiving talent(Green, Gresham, Simpson) so it's hard not to like him as a backup/spot starter for 2011. Dalton looks like a low end QB1 or high end QB2 this week. Running BacksChristopher Ivory is finally back in the lineup for the Saints. The forgotten man in the crowded Saints backfield should be able to contribute if given the chance and is healthy. His 2010 5.2 YPC in his rookie season should be enough to help fantasy leaguers jog their memory of how good he can be. It's tough to project how good he will be in 2011 but I suspect his will again be at least somewhat fantasy relevant this year. Reggie Bush is again on fantasy radars with Daniel Thomas out for week 8. Bush should be considered nothing more than an emergency pickup for week 8 with more upside in PPR leagues. Bush does not project well for the rest of 2011 but has a chance of putting up a decent day in week 8. Ryan Torain and Roy Helu are battling it out for primary back duties in Washington. Your guess is as good as mine with mind games Shanahan running the show. You might as well flip a coin in this one. Still, Washington RBs project well when given a start and both Torain and Helu have good talent. Both players should be owned in almost all leagues because of their high potential capability, even if it comes with the low ceiling possibility as Marcus Martin Womens Jersey well. Spiller is again a blip on the fantasy radar as he lined up at WR and had a respectable 5 39 0 day in week 7. If you're desperate or in a PPR league, Spiller is not a half bad pickup at this point. Maurice Morris and Keiland Williams split carries in week 8 with 9 carries each. Jahvid Best has had a history of concussion problems and his situation is nothing to take lightly. The Detroit backfield is something to closely monitor if you're on the prowl for RB help, make sure to pounce on either Morris or Williams should they grab a hold of the primary back duties. Knowshon Moreno looks to be the man for week 8 for Denver, McGahee has a broken hand and may miss a game or three. Moreno has a good matchup this week but look for Tebow to vulture away running TDs and even yards away from whatever Denver RB is starting.Bernard Scott gets one game as the starting Bengals back with Cedric Benson serving a 1 game suspenion. Their opponent(Seattle) is giving up 100+ rushing yards a game. Scott isn't as talented as Benson but should be able to put up some stats, he is a RB2/Flex play for this week only. Jackie Battle is putting up good numbers when he has been given the ball, he has a 5.2 YPC this year. Still, he is not being given goal line touches and that is a concern. Also, he has given nearly nothing to PPR owners, only registering a 4 23 0 line for 2011. Regardless, Battle projects well this week against a San Diego team giving up 121.7 Rushing YPG, even if McCluster has been vulturing away carries. Battle has enough talent to eventually be even a RB1 if given the ball enough and if he stays healthy, those are big if's though. 2014-Aug-1 22:56 - Madden NFL 10 Review

Madden NFL 10 Review PS3

The Bottom LineThis is the least flashy Madden to date, and I mean it in a good way. With no crazy 3D menus, VR practice modes, over the top hip Carlos Hyde Womens Jersey hop presentation, this year Madden seems to be more about the sport of football and less about the attitude portrayed by its advertisers. The game looks and plays clean, and this is possibly the best Madden to date. It's simply too bad they try to nickel and dime you by charging for game modes and cheat codes that are already on the disc. This isn't downloadable content EA wants you to pay extra for things on a disk you've already paid $60 for. Foul, unsportsmanlike conduct.

Madden is always going to be big football, but this year we get a more subtle presentation and a very interesting/scary micro transaction scheme. Rather than being a 3D virtual space, the menus are, well, menus. These simple lists with better organization not only make Madden easier to get into, but far less annoying as well. It's fun to play as a d back ganging up on a receiver and even more fun to watch. On the flip side, when running and breaking through a large group of defenders. One can't help but feel a little pride. Unfortunately, not all is good in Madden 10. In fact, some of it is darn right wrong. I speak of Madden's new obsession with micro transactions. Now downloadable content, or DLC, is a popular way for game companies to both extend a game's life, make money, and involve the player in customization. New content is produced after the game is published, and people pay to download it. Madden has twisted this and now charges for items Jimmie Ward Womens Jersey on the disk. Is your favorite player going to retire in the game? Pay EA a few extra bucks and they'll bend the rules and let him stay on longer. That's right, they are charging for the use of cheat codes. From player improvement to extra scouting and faster healing, you pay you get a competitive advantage. Madden 10 is a bipolar experience.

2014-Aug-1 22:56 - Auburn's Greg Robinson

Auburn's Greg Robinson is at the head of the class among offensive linemen

He weighs 332 pounds, but can run 40 yards in under five seconds (4.92 seconds, to be exact). He has the long arms that NFL scouts covet (35 inches), but he's still strong enough to bench press 225 pounds 32 times.

The only thing Auburn's Greg Robinson doesn't have is experience. He's the finest physical specimen in a loaded NFL draft class of offensive linemen, and he's almost certain to be chosen in the Top 10 of Thursday night's first round. But he's also a risk, and in a draft rich in options, that's something every team must weigh.

"Robinson is the one (lineman) with the highest upside," NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said in a conference call, "but also the one you'll be most concerned about because he's a little bit more raw."

In just 25 career starts as Tigers left tackle, Robinson showcased a massive frame and the agility to stay with most pass rushers, and he routinely engulfed defenders.

But athletic, inexperienced linemen routinely present draft risk. Three years ago, the Dallas Cowboys struck gold when they dared to pick Tyron Smith, who's emerged as a dominant left tackle. But the jury's still out on 2013 Eagles first rounder Lane Johnson, a former QB who clocked a 4.72 40 yard dash last February.

Teams could look elsewhere next week, too. There's Texas A Jake Matthews, a senior who's been starting since his freshman year and is so polished that Mayock says "he's Dee Ford Youth Jersey already a professional." And Michigan senior Taylor Lewan is so big (6 7) and athletic that some thought he could have been a top 10 selection last year.

"I believe it's very deep in the offensive line, specifically at the offensive tackle position," said Falcons coach Mike Smith, who could be looking for a tackle next week.

That's why NFL personnel people grilled Robinson at the NFL scouting combine, asking him question after question about hand placement and pass blocking.

But Robinson believes he handled those questions well. And once he reaches the NFL, he said, he believes he'll continue to improve.

"I'm not at full potential right now," he said. "I still have a lot to go."

Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn, Soph.

The most athletically gifted offensive lineman Phillip Gaines Youth Jersey in this draft, although his technique needs plenty of refinement.

Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A Sr.

Son of NFL Hall of Fame lineman Bruce Matthews. "You plug him in Day One and he'll play at a high level," says Mayock.

Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan, Sr.

Surprisingly fast (4.87 second 40 yard dash), and has large 6 7 frame, but height sometimes works against him, and dealt with misdemeanor assault charges in March.

Zack Martin, OT, Notre Dame, Sr.

Played tackle in college but many believe he has strength to move to guard in NFL. Lacks ideal height for a left tackle.

Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia, Sr.

Fast rising prospect who started for Cavaliers as a true freshman. Scouts like his quickness and smarts, although he can sometimes get off balance.

Colt Lyerla on Brandon Linder Youth Jersey second chance at NFL combine

Back to Main MenuBusiness News HomeFront PorchIt Only MoneyOregon the EconomyPlaybooks ProfitsSilicon ForestWindow ShopStock Market ReportBusiness Public BlogBack to Main MenuVideos from the OregonianVideos from The Beaverton LeaderVideos from the Hillsboro ArgusVideos from The Forest Grove LeaderYour VideosINDIANAPOLIS (AP) Colt Lyerla came to the NFL scouting combine with more to prove than just about anyone else. Not on the field, off of it.Two months after the former Oregon tight end pleaded guilty to cocaine possession, he was answering questions in Indianapolis about why his life went astray and trying to convince league scouts that his troubled days are over."I'd say that I've put myself in a position where my back's against the wall, to a point that if I don't do everything perfect and the right way, that I won't be able to play football, let alone be successful in any shape or form," Lyerla told reporters with a stone faced expression.Convincing coaches and team officials that he's changed may be the most important part of the draft process for Lyerla, and history shows the wrong answers could seriously damage his pro prospects.Teams routinely claim they remove college players from their draft boards for serious character flaws. It came up again after former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested last summer.Da'Rick Rogers showed up at last year's combine with the size and stats scouts covet. But after admitting he was booted off the team at Tennessee because of multiple failed drug tests, Rogers wound up signing with Buffalo as an undrafted rookie, and then was cut and landed on the Allen Robinson Youth Jersey Colts' practice squad before finally making an active roster. Now it's Lyerla's turn. While he measured in at 6 foot 4, 242 pounds and turned in an impressive time of 4.61 seconds in the 40 yard dash, Lyerla must now show he's a different guy than the one some have branded as overly emotional and prone to outbursts. It matters to teams, which have spent lots of time and money delving into player backgrounds, so they know what they're really getting on draft weekend."We tended to separate the stories from the facts. I think that's important for readers and spectators and fans to recognize what may be a hot media story may not be an issue to the teams," longtime NFL executive Bill Polian said. "When we found out what happened with Manti Te'o, it was no longer an issue."This year's biggest question marks include players who were suspended by coaches for Twitter posts, players who publicly castigated fans, drug related suspensions, arrests, one player who punched a teammate, and one accused of helping to cover up an alleged rape after the fact. How players and agents handle the weekend's questions depends on the strategy and the nature of the issue.George Atkinson, a running back who was suspended for Notre Dame's bowl game, and Lyerla walked into the media room and responded to the more difficult questions with blunt answers.Lyerla told reporters the key to staying on track was avoiding people who could be bad influences. Atkinson said he was "stupid" for continuing a phone conversation during a team meal even after coach Brian Kelly asked him to end the call.Linebacker Max Bullough, the former Michigan State star, showed up but repeatedly refused to answer questions about his Rose Bowl suspension, choosing instead to say NFL teams already knew the answer.Former Vanderbilt receiver Chris Boyd, who was kicked off the team for his alleged role in the cover up, didn't show up in the media room. And after Walter Powell acknowledged teams were asking about his reported October arrest for fourth degree assault and unlawful theft, charges that were later dropped when a grand jury failed to indict, the Murray State receiver was asked what he had learned from the situation."I just learned to overcome adversity, and also just pick women right," he said. The issue of drug use is becoming more complicated in light of states like Colorado and Washington legalizing marijuana and others considering or already legalizing medical marijuana. So will it hurt former University of Miami offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson now that he's acknowledged his college suspensions were related to marijuana use? Perhaps."I will say this, there has been a tendency in the public mind to look upon marijuana more leniently. I'm not sure that's true of clubs," said Polian, now an ESPN analyst. "My experience with people is that the performance of those who use marijuana on a regular basis, as reported on verified official tests, has not been good. In fact, it's been abysmal. So I haven't bought into the fact that it's harmless."

2014-Aug-1 22:51 - 2010 NFL Week

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions

Week one of the 2010 NFL season left many of us that make NFL picks and predictions with meager opening week records. Last week I went 9 7, which is no good. Near consensus picks the Colts over the Texans, Chargers over the Chiefs, and Falcons over the Steelers (just to name a few) were upset on the football field. It simply reiterates the beautiful fact, however, that on any given game day, anything can happen. With that said, here are my week 2 NFL picks and predictions for the 2010 NFL season. 2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Pittsburg Steelers (1 0) at Tennessee Titans (1 0)

Dennis Dixon has been named the starter for the second consecutive week. He was far from brilliant in the Steelers' opening week victory over the Falcons, but Pittsburg still came out with the win. The Steelers have a solid defensive unit, but until a team finds a way to stuff the league's my dangerous running back, Chris Johnson, the Titans will be a consistently tough opponent. I predict the Titans win their first home game against the Steelers, 24 13.

The 2010 NFL season opened with a clear display of an offensively out of synch Vikings team that, despite their woes, somehow managed to keep a game close with the New Orleans Saints. Though the Dolphins have the capacity to make a strong push in the AFC East, they, on the other hand, barely managed to pull out a close week one win over the struggling Buffalo Bills. I don't think one week's worth of time translates to Farve and his boys suddenly playing on the same page; however, I do think the Vikings defense can limit the Fins enough to give the offense continued opportunities to put points on the board and deliver a much needed win in front of their home crowd. The points will come, Peterson will score twice, and I believe the Vikings win over the Dolphins, 21 10.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Arizona Cardinals (1 0) at Atlanta Falcons (0 1)

Atlanta fans have to be anxious for this game. They witnessed their team lose in overtime on the road in a game that they should have won, at least as far as the odds were concerned. This week they face a Cardinals team that only beat the measly Rams by four points. Sadly, the Falcons are hosting with something to prove rather than confidence to continue building on. Luckily for them, Arizona isn't exactly a team to fear out of the NFC West. I still like the Cardinals' defense, but I like the Falcons offense better (if they show up this week). I think the Falcons get a win over the Cardinals, 17 14.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Baltimore Ravens (1 0) at Cincinnati Bengals (0 1)

The Ravens are coming off a close, but exhilarating win over the New York Jets while the Bengals return home after a humbling week one loss to the Patriots. This AFC North divisional game is a big one for both teams, and I'm torn between a safer pick with the Ravens or a gutsy call in favor of the Bengals. Cincinnati was a surprise team last year and convincingly beat the Ravens twice in the regular season, but this Baltimore defensive unit is playing with a renewed fire and passion. I also think the Ravens offense will have a stronger showing this week. That all I said, I can't fight my gut; I'm predicting the Bengals keep themselves from falling behind in the division and beat the Ravens 24 17.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Kansas City (1 0) at Cleveland Browns (0 1)

There isn't too much to say about this game. Kansas City is coming off arguably its biggest win in years, and the Browns look like the same, bad Browns. KC's supreme coaching staff looks like they've found a way to strengthen the defense and special teams by utilizing young talent. On offense, the addition of Thomas Jones to compliment Jamaal Charles is looking perfect. Sorry Cleveland, I predict the Chiefs win over the Browns, 17 6.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Chicago Bears (1 0) at Dallas Cowboys (0 1)

Chicago lands in Dallas against a Cowboys team that, even after one week, is facing a lot of pressure. The presence of Julius Peppers and return of Brian Urlacher has strengthened their defense unit, which should worry Dallas fans. The Cowboys' offensive line is the weakest facet of the team, and though Tony Romo has a great number of offensive Authentic Blake Bortles Jersey weapons, at some point in the game he'll tire from running around trying to extend plays or getting hit too often. I still think Dallas redeems themselves after a sloppy, underachieving week one loss: Cowboys over the Bears 28 20.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Philadelphia Eagles (0 1) at Detroit Lions (0 1)

This game may feature two backup quarterbacks. For the Lions, Matthew Stafford separated his shoulder and it is uncertain if he is going to start. As far as the Eagles, Kevin Kolb, who suffered a concussion in Sunday's loss, failed his first concussion test this week. If he fails to pass his exam on Friday, Michael Vick will more than Authentic Marqise Lee Jersey likely start. Either way, the Eagles should win this game over the Lions, 14 7.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Buffalo Bills (0 1) at Green Bay Packers (1 0)

The loss of starting running back Ryan Grant is a big one for the Packers, but it isn't devastating. Due to their week two match up against an inferior Bills team, the Packers get to see who will step up to fill Grant's vacated spot. Brandon Jackson should get the majority of the carries. Regardless, the Packers should win this game easily in front of their home crowd: Packers 28 10 over the Bills.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: TampaBay Buccaneers (1 0) at Carolina Panthers (0 1)

Buc's quarterback Josh Freeman played well in the second half to bring Tampa Bay a comeback win over the Cleveland Browns. This week, however, he, as well as the entire Buccaneers team, faces a better opponent in their NFC South divisional foe Carolina Panthers. Panthers' quarterback Matt Moore suffered a concussion in last week's loss to the Giants so it will be interesting to see if the Buccaneers get the first taste of rookie Jimmy Clausen. I predict Carolina wins this game, regardless of who's under center: Panthers 17 14 over the Buccaneers.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Seattle Seahawks (1 0) at Denver Broncos (0 1)

The Seahawks, under new head coach Pete Carroll, came out and easily beat out the 49ers to begin a season that now looks somewhat promising. Their defense played well, and their offense looked better than it has in recent years too. The Broncos, on the other hand, took a beating at the hands of the Jaguars and are looking to stake their place in the AFC West. At this point, Denver could easily find itself in third or fourth place in their division. I like the Seahawks better than this Denver team, but I like the Broncos' addition of Laurence Maroney and their chances of winning this game. Coach Josh McDaniels, whom Maroney played under in New England, should be able to utilize the young back effectively. I predict the Broncos to beat the Seahawks in a close one, 21 20.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: St. Louis Rams (0 1) at Oakland Raiders (0 1)

We have two bad teams, both of which believe or at least thought coming into the season that they were improving. For the Raiders, their opening week loss to the Titans was disgraceful. For the Rams, their loss to the Cardinals was by a slimmer margin, but it was still a typical Rams loss. I'm rooting for Bradford and the Rams here, but I think the Oakland Raiders will look better against one of the worst teams in the league: Raiders 20 10 over the Rams.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Houston Texans (1 0) over Washington Redskins (1 0)

What a win for the Texans in week one over Indy. The Redskins and new head coach Mike Shanahan also won an important game over their own divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. Though the Redskins are definitely improved with Donavan McNabb running the offense, I think the Texans will do everything to keep their one game lead over the Colts. With that said, I predict the Texans beat the Redskins, 28 24. Oh, and wouldn't it be neat to see Arian Foster follow up his week one explosion with a great game?

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: New England Patriots (1 0) at New York Jets (0 1)

This has to be one the most anticipated games of week two action. The Jets deservingly lost to the Ravens, though only by one point, after playing incredibly sloppy and generating little to nothing on offense. The Patriots, on the other hand, beat a solid Bengals team by two touchdowns. While it'd be nice to see a shifting of AFC East powers, I can't help but think the Jets will continue to face humility right in the eye, this week in the form of the Patriots. New York simply talked too much in the offseason, and every team in the NFL is looking to shut them down. The Patriots may play it off, but this is a big game for them. I expect Tom Brady and the Patriots to leave the Jets stunned at 0 2, beating them 35 20.

2010 NFL Week 2 Picks and Predictions: Jacksonville Jaguars (1 0) at San Diego Chargers (0 1)

Did anyone see that impressive Chiefs win over the Chargers coming? I certainly didn't. I'm a diehard Chargers fan, but I have to give it to the Chiefs; they looked great. This week, however, the Jaguars will have to deal with an embarrassed San Diego team that is looking to thrash their upcoming opponent at home and in perfect playing conditions. The Jaguars looked better than expected, but then again, they were playing the Broncos. Either way, I predict the Chargers win this game over the Jaguars 31 21.
